Facile one-step synthesis of a thia-bridged bis-1,10-phenanthroline macrocycle

An efficient one-pot synthesis of a macrocyclic ligand, consisting of two 1,10-phenanthroline nuclei bridged by sulfur, is described. A spectrophotometric investigation reveals the isolated compound to be the mono-trifluoroacetate salt. Symmetrical NH- and S-bridged tetradentate ligands were also synthesized by the new method.     

Synthesis and simple separation of β-pyrrole sulfonated porphycenes

New water-soluble porphycenes having sulfonic acid groups at the β-pyrrolic positions were synthesized and characterized by UV-vis, NMR, IR, and mass spectroscopy as well as elemental analyses. The series of mono- to tri-sulfonato derivatives were simply separated by the extraction method.

Characterization and Crystal Structure of a New Holmium(Ⅲ) Complex with the Macrocyclic Ligand Derived from 2,6-Dfformyl-4-methylphenol and Diethylenetriamine

The title compound (13,27-dimethyl-3,6,9,17,20,23-hexaazatricyclo-[23.3.1.111,15]-triaconta- 1 (29),2,9,11,13,15(30), 16,23,25,27-decaene-29,30-diol-N3,N6,N9,O29,O30)-bis(nitrato-O,O')-holmium(Ⅲ) nitrate hydrate has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, and electrospray mass spectra. Its crystal and molecular structures were determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with a = 23.737(12), b = 14.237(7), c = 19.801(10) (A), β = 91.36(1)°, Mr = 831.57, V = 6690(6) (A)3, Z = 8,Dc = 1.651 g/cma, F(000) = 3344, R = 0.0482 and wR = 0.0923. The holmium ion is located in one of the compartments of the macrocyclic ligand and presents a distorted tricapped trigonal prismatic coordination geometry. The macrocycle is coordinated with two oxygen and three nitrogen atoms.Two nitrates are chelated in the opposite positions of the macrocycle, and the third one is ionic.     

Synthesis of a new and versatile macrocyclic NADH model

A new macrocyclic NADH model 1 has been designed and synthesised. The new model consists of the same subunits as previously reported models. However, the present model is designed as such that the pyridine nitrogen of the nicotinamide units are not incorporated in the macrocyclic framework. Thus, properties such as solubility can easily be varied by alkylation with an appropriate agent. The macrocyclic framework was prepared in 7 steps. Methylation of the pyridine nitrogens followed by reduction gave the desired model. This model compound was found to reduce methyl benzoylformate stereoselectively in good yield with 48% enantiomeric excess.

Synthesis of novel rigid triazine-based calix[6]arenes

In this report, the stepwise synthesis of a novel rigid and functionalised macrocycle 2 based on triazine and phenylenediamine linkers, is presented. Poor recognition of the macrocycle 2 for its substrates is observed, which shows experimentally that for the meltriazine based-calix[6]arene system, the binding ability of the melamine moiety gets more benefit from the ring flexibility derived from a xylenediamine linker 1 than from a phenylenediamine linker 2.     

Macrocycle opening in crown ethers

Macrocycle opening in derivatives of benzocrown ethers under the action of amines is affected by the nature of the heteroatoms in the macrocycle, the nature of the functional group in the benzene ring of the crown ether, and the length, branching, and number of hydrocarbon radicals at the amine nitrogen atom. Macrocycle opening in formyl derivatives of benzocrown ethers under the action of methylamine

A new method for synthesizing nitrogen-containing podands by nucleophilic regioselective cleavage of the macrocycle in formyl derivatives of benzocrown ethers by heating with methylamine and methylammonium chloride has been developed.
